Sexist Commercials

It is still hard to believe that in 2018 there are still so many sexist commercials. We sit and watch our favorite shows and as the mindless commercials come on we tune them out or simply get up to grab a snack or hit the washroom until the show resumes. But if you sit and watch the commercials, I mean really watch the commercials some are highly sexist.

And of course the ones that bug me the most are the commercials for cleaning products or appliances. As usual a woman with a smile on her face is busy cleaning while the family sits about, including the husband, while she gracefully sweeps through the house like she is Cinderella on steroids. Or the commercials where the woman is preparing the meals while the children head off to school, the husband fixing his tie while she stands with a gleaming smile holding out the lunches for the day.

The only thing I can think is a man is creating these commercials. What woman in her right mind would not think how horribly sexist it is. Why should the woman always cater to the whims of others while everyone else goes about their business. Like her whole world revolves around the needs of others while she disappears into thin air while she waits  eagerly to whirl about a vacuum like nothing else matters. It is these messages that are incredibly harmful to women, always forced into a caregiver role and expected to put herself second. Our little girls are raised to see this over and over again and feel guilty if they want to put themselves first just like men who are born into  entitlement to do just that.

AS part of this blog I am going to call out every sexist ad I see on television aimed at women being caregivers or Molly maid. I am tired of this bullshit and it is time to start calling out these misogynistic inspired companies and simply stop buying their products.

So I will keep you posted and will show you one by one the ads I see. Perhaps one day this will all be a thing of the past and women of the future will be mortified to see how today’s women are portrayed.
