To the Men of Parliament Hill – A little Taste of Your Own Medicine!

I read an article in our local Newspaper, the Calgary Herald, about how the #metoo movement has impacted operations and relationships on parliament hill. For some reason, male MP’s are apparently walking around on eggshells for fear of being wrongly accused of sexually harassing a staffer or fellow MP. Their big pouty lips sticking out for all to see, poor little ol me. Give me a break! The sexual objectification  and the then resulting uninhibited sexual harassment by men has been part of a woman’s day to day working life for centuries but apparently that was OK. Women were expected to put up with this and at the same time smile pretty and stroke the ever bloated male ego.  Now suddenly the tables are turned and the poor, vulnerable men of parliament hill are terribly hard done by. Heck, they are afraid to get on an elevator alone with a women for fear of being wrongly accused of acting inappropriately. This male mindset on parliament hill today is incredibly passive aggressive and controlling in hoping things can go back to the way they were and the sexual harassment can once again reign supreme.

Well I say, you can blame all of this squarely on your male predecessors (and of course your own misogynistic mindset) who put you in this place to begin with.  Perhaps if men treated women in the workplace like their respected male cohorts rather than just a set of boobs and an ass, you would be free of any false accusations of harassment and the #metoo movement would cease to exist.

And yet, ironically, the article points out there are men who think the harassment training and talk is somehow funny and irrelevant. Then in an about turn these same men are afraid to get on an elevator with a women, or heaven forbid be alone with a woman or subsequently only hire men. Women have had had those very same fears for centuries and too have been afraid of getting on an elevator alone with a man for fear of sexual harassment and we all know there was no consequence for this behavior in the past.

Pretty hard to take you seriously don’t you think?

To all  the men on parliament and everywhere having their little pity party, you reap what you sow.  Please grow the fuck up! To all the women on parliament hill, you deserve so much more.
