Kelowna in August With Someone I Love

My daughter and I decided to take a trip to Kelowna BC this summer as she was home from the UAE where she works a full time job as a marketing and communications specialist. I cherish every day I have with her as she returns to the UAE on Saturday.

I remember thinking when my kids were small that I would lament as they got older and were no longer children, but that has not been the case. To be honest I have enjoyed each phase of their lives and now as they are all adults, it is so much fun to partake in life as equals, well as equal as mother and child can get. Lol. To be able to have frank conversations with my kids and discuss our different opinions and thoughts on the world is truly a gift. They do not see the world in the same way and I often struggle wondering how they become so independent of thought. But I also pat myself on the back knowing I raised strong independent people free of thought and speech.

My middle daughter is ambitious, curious, adventurous, quirky, mildly eccentric, intelligent, free spirited, and contrary and yes, a little messy. I admire her sensible nature, even though I wish she wasn’t so dam frugal. (Oh the stories I could share!) I admire her intuitive nature and the ability to offer advice like that of a person twice her age. I admire her witty sense of humor and her ability to laugh at herself and of course her family. Put all these things together and you have an adult who will contribute to our world in her own unique way making a difference with her freely shaped stamp for all to see.

Our trip to Kelowna was such fun and we kept busy the whole time we were there. Beach time relaxing, pedaling through Penticton in a bike built for two on streets we didn’t belong, wine tasting adventures which included a summer music series where there was no shortage of laughter. Walks on the water front just chatting about life, present and past relationships (not shortage of chatter there), frugal dinners out where we talked ourselves into not being hungry, and those quiet moments where we are just present with each other.

These are the trips I cherish. Nothing lavish, just simple fun, knowing it is the company I keep that makes the holiday memorable.
